MY MENOPAUSE

My Skin

YOUR SKIN AND MENOPAUSE

The largest organ of the body is your skin. The way it looks can dramatically affect the way you feel.

During menopause, unfortunately, the skin can undergo many changes. Your body stops making as much collagen. You lose some fat under your skin and your skin’s elasticity drops. That, combined with dryness caused by hormonal changes, can cause sagging — especially around the neck, jawline, and cheeks — and fine lines and wrinkles.

Ageing skin is due to both internal and external factors,

External factors:

The environment, sun exposure, sun beds, Food we consumed, smoking, Excess alcohol.

Internal factors:

Genetics, Disease and Illness, Certain medication, Menopause.

How Hormones Affect The Elasticity in Your Skin

The dermis of your skin is a layer composed chiefly of collagen. Along with elastin, collagen is responsible for the skin’s structure and elasticity. Once menopause sets in, you can expect to lose almost one-third of the collagen content of your skin in just 5 years. The collagen content continues to get lower at the rate of 2% each year once you’re postmenopausal.

It’s the decreasing levels of oestrogen that cause the outer layer of the skin to produce fewer
glycosaminogly cans, also known as GAGs. This hormonal change leads to the lowering of
collagen content and makes your skin less elastic.

How Menopause Affects The Skin

Let’s look now at 8 of the main skin problems many women encounter around the time of menopause.

1. Dry Skin: Your skin starts to thin during menopause with the outer layer becoming less efficient at holding water. Oestrogen is responsible not only for collagen levels, but also encourages the oils that keep your skin nice and moist. As well as being irritating and stopping you from looking your best, dry skin can lead to itchy skin.

2. Itchy Skin: At its worst, when your skin dries out too much during the change, you can develop pruritis,
a feeling of itchiness making you feel like you want to scratch and keep on scratching. This can develop in the arms and legs, back or chest.

3. Wrinkles: As collagen is lost and produced in lower amounts during menopause, more skin cells die or atrophy.
This results in the appearance of the skin altering and wrinkles appearing.

4. Sweating: Thermoregulatory sweating is a mechanism your body uses to control its internal temperature.
During menopause, sweating often increases and is linked to hot flashes.

5. Acne: Hormonal levels going haywire can lead to the unfortunate development of adult acne for many menopausal women. As well as cortisol, stress – a common symptom of menopause – causes your body to produce androgens. Since androgens can stimulate the oil glands in your skin, this often ends up triggering outbreaks of acne.

6. Hair Loss: As oestrogen and progesterone levels go into free fall with menopause, hair loss can be an
unfortunate side effect. Since these hormones help promote hair growth and longevity, their declining levels
during the change can cause hair to fall out. (10)

7. Hair Growth: There is no hard evidence to show why facial hair can crop up on women undergoing menopause.
Since this might be due to changing hormonal levels, it’s worth consulting your doctor if this happens to you
or use Vaniqua cream to help

8. Wound Healing: While you might experience a reduction in the efficiency of wound healing, particularly
if you have an ulcer, as with hair growth there is no conclusive study to show this ispurely down to
menopause rather than a by-product of natural aging.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

After menopause, your skin gets drier because oil glands aren’t as active.
Try to give skin more moisture with a heavier  cream. Skip long, hot showers
and put on moisturizer while your skin is still damp. That helps boost
hydration.  And IV infusion helps ease dry skin as it delivers straight into the skin cells.

MENOPAUSE and IV Therapy (Intravenous Infusion)

Menopause is natural; but like many things that are natural for women, it’s not always
enjoyable. Typically, menopause is defined as when a woman stops have her period
for a year or longer, though she may experience symptoms earlier (Pre menopause).

While women shouldn’t be ashamed of going through menopause, that doesn’t mean they have to suffer from the symptoms that come with it in silence. These can include hot flashes, a
decreased libido, hair loss and thinning, dryness of skin and vagina, and much more. Although there is no cure for menopause, there are ways that the symptoms can be treated and make easier to cope with.

Some of these treatments may be tedious, or difficult for you to follow. Fortunately, you do have the option of finding menopause relief through IV drip therapy at Re-Treat by Berbs.

What is Menopause?

Menopause is a natural part of ageing but usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age.
It is defined as the stage when a woman no longer menstruates and reaches the end of her
reproductive cycle. There are 3 stages of Menopause.

The 3 stages of Menopause.

1. Pre-Menopause.

This is the time leading up to the menopause, when a woman has irregular menstrual cycles.
This is also known as a menopausal transition and continues until 12 months after her final period.

This is the stage which starts when the oestrogen levels produced by the ovaries decline.
Oestrogen influences various bodily systems including the brain, bones, skin, heart and vagina, women may experience symptoms affecting some or all of these bodily systems as oestrogen levels decline.

2. Perimenopause.

Menopause is the stage when a woman no longer menstruate, and reaches the end of her
reproductive cycle.

3. Post-Menopause.

It is the period of time after periods have stopped for a year.

FACTS:

After the menopause women lose bone tissue and density more rapidly than men.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF IV DRIP THERAPY FOR MENOPAUSE?

One of the major benefits of IV drip therapy for menopause is that it can give you an energy boost. Menopause often leaves women feeling drained and depleted. The vitamins that are often included in IV drip therapies feature magnesium, calcium, and Vitamin C, among others. This can give you that instant shot of energy that you need in order to get through the day.

Additionally, IV drip therapy helps keep you from getting dehydrated, as is often the case with menopausal women. Essentially, IV drip therapy allows you to have a cocktail created that will treat the symptoms you are struggling with most.

IV TRANSFUSION

At Re-Treat by Berbs we have a variety of vitamins that can be incorporated into your IV drip or vitamin booster shot to help relieve your menopause symptoms from low oestrogen levels:

FOLIC ACID

Studies have shown significant decreases in severity,  duration,  and frequency of  hot flashes when supplementing with folic acid.

VITAMIN B-6 (PYRIDOXINE)

helps make serotonin. Fluctuating serotonin levels may be a contributing factor in the mood swings and depression common in menopause.

GLUTATHIONE

This powerful antioxidant has been shown to decrease hot flashes, improve sleep, and help decrease weight gain related to changes in hormone levels.

MAGNESIUM

to help with insomnia. Studies have shown that people who have difficulty sleeping often have lower levels of magnesium! Magnesium is also known to help with other menopausal symptoms such as bloating, anxiety, irritability and other mood changes.

GLUTATHIONE

This powerful antioxidant has been shown to decrease hot flashes, improve sleep, and help decrease weight gain related to changes in hormone levels.

Profhilo is an excellent anti-ageing treatment, clinically proven to help with a wide range of ageing symptoms. It acts as a hydrator rather than a traditional dermal filler, and is therefore fantastic for those with tired, dull and ageing skin, as it provides overall more plump and luminous skin.

HOW PROFHILO WORKS

As you age your body starts to produce less collagen and elastin – the cells that give your skin its structure and firmness. When these cells start to reduce, your skin can no longer hold its appearance and the first signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles, start to appear.

Profhilo works right at the root cause of the problem – stimulating collagen and elastin production and increasing the elasticity of your skin.

The Profhilo is injected just below the skin’s surface. It disperses quickly to boost and instantly hydrate your skin, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles and resulting in improved skin texture.

Profhilo is the first BDDE-free stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) based product for treating skin laxity. With one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market (64mg / 2ml) it is not only amazing at boosting and hydrating the skin but it is also one of the most effective products out there for remodelling the ageing and sagging tissue.
